7 True Benefits of doing Yoga
We all have heard about how practicing yoga can improve your health, and how everyone that have try it and practice it swear by it; clamming all types of wonders, but have you ever wonder what are some of those benefits?
I have gathered the top 7 benefits of practicing yoga, so you can review them yourself and realize that yoga is a complete exercise for body and mind.
1. Improves flexibility
If this is your first time doing yoga, probably you won't be able to touch your toes or get yourself into full positions. But if you're consistent gradually you'll become more flexible. You'll also probably notice that aches and pains (that you may have) start to disappear; that's no coincidence; tight hips can strain the knee joint due to improper alignment of the thigh and shinbones.
2. Complete fitness session
As you may already know, yoga is a powerful and complete workout. To be more exact, yoga is what we refer to as body weight exercise. Depending the type of yoga you do the results will vary; taking into account that when you do Ashtanga (the power yoga) you're not only building muscle strength, but you're also burning approximately 400 calories per session.
That's what I call doing exercise!
3. Increase your energy
Yoga is proven to boost energy levels, giving you an extra shot of energy we so often need. Studies show that some yoga poses reduce fatigue and decrease the hormone Cortisol, which translate into more energy.
Practicing pranayama (breathing) is a great way to learn to breath more deeply, and when you give your body waves of fresh oxygen it will revitalize your whole system.
"Yoga is 100 per cent nature, so ditch the coffee and the power nap and instead choose yoga to instantly boost and balance energy levels."
Adele Wills, yoga instructor.
4. Reduce stress
Studies have shown that yoga can decrease the secreation of Cortisol, the primary stress hormone. You can also practice meditation to keep stress in check; but that's not all, practicing yoga can lead to a decrease in symptoms of anxiety.
5. Builds muscle strength
When you build strength through yoga, you balance it with flexibility. Gaining more than the traditional weight lift. And as a plus you'll look more tone and be stronger.
6. Helps you sleep deeper
Yoga is the perfect way to provide relief from a hectic week or life. Restorative yoga, a guided relaxation or meditation will provide your nervous system the downtime it needs to re-start itself; and will help you sleep better. Which translate in you being less tired and stressed.
7. Boosts immunity
When you come in and out of a yoga posture and stretch and contract muscles, you increase the drainage of lymp (a fluid rich in immune cells). Perfect to fight infections, cancerous cells and viral illness.
As you can see (read) the benefits of doing yoga are amazing, and these are just some of them, you'll be surprise by how much yoga can improve your life.
"The purpose of yoga is to build strength, awareness and harmony in both the mind and body"
Natalie Nevins, DO, yoga instructor.
Believe when I tell you, that if you aren't doing yoga, you're missing on the opportunity to become a better you; a healthier, energize, happy you.
So... what are you waiting for?
